How far in advance should I order a cake?

If at all possible, e-mail me (cakeapotamus@gmail.com) as soon as you know the date of the event for which you need your cake. The earlier you contact me, the better your chances of getting on the calendar. Now that I'm making cakes full time, I have much more room on the calendar for cakes. But my schedule can still get full, especially in the fall.

As of right now, I only require deposits on wedding cakes.

In a perfect world, I'd have two weeks notice to plan and order any special materials your cake might need. I can do it with a week's notice most of the time. If you're ordering a cake within a few days of the event, there may be an extra charge for expediting some materials or ingredients.

Have you ever made a ______ cake?

If you don't see a cake like that in my gallery or on the Facebook page, the answer is, "Probably not." But I would love to try!

Here's a blog post about this very question.

Can you make this cake?

Maybe. I will not deliberately copy another decorator's design without their permission. I am happy to contact them to ask. I am also happy to make a similar cake inspired by another.
There are some things that I can not do (yet). If you ask for something that I don't think I can pull off, I'll let you know. The good news is, I'm always learning. I've taken classes from some of the best cake decorators in the country, and I've got more classes scheduled.

"Is it true that you used to _____?" or "Is it true you once _______?"

Probably. The path that brought me to this amazing place in life was quite an adventure. I have a lot of stories. Almost all of them are true.

Do you mind if people bring Starbucks to your bakery and drink it with your cupcakes?

Nope. And if you happen to have an extra iced grande nonfat two sweet 'n' low latte with you, I'll happily take it off your hands.
Really, bringing in Starbucks doesn't bother me. Bringing in someone else's cupcakes, though, is just tacky. Don't be that person.

Can I have my kid's party in the bakery?

Yes! Check out the parties page for more information.

Can I have an adult's party in the bakery?

Absolutely. I can't sell alcohol, but you're welcome to bring your own.

Can my friends and I book a private cake decorating class night?

Absolutely. There's a five person minimum.

Do I need a reservation to host a book/knitting/bible study group in the bakery?

Yes, just call or email me to let me know. The bakery is available on a first come, first served basis.
If you want the place to yourself, you can book a party for a weeknight or Saturday afternoon (prices depend on the food/decorations requested for the party).

What's with the decor?

I'm filling the bakery with the things that make me happy with the hope that others will enjoy them as well.
